Fighting 15s studio is unbearably hot on sunny summer afternoons; when it is, we will close from 1pm, not 4.30pm, and beat a retreat to somewhere cooler, such as the beach, which is five minutes away. Ian would rather go to the beach than install air-conditioning.
Unlike last year, Fighting 15s will not be closing this summer, just working different hours during the day.
During the remainder of July, and throughout August, please restrict phone calls to between 10am and 1pm Monday to Friday.
Eureka Miniatures’ annual summer slowdown begins shortly when owner Nic Robson begins his world tour to take in Historicon, Claymore, Europe, Hong Kong and all points in-between. This affects the dispatch of our consignments from Eureka in Australia and leads to longer fulfilment times for special orders and for items that are out of stock.
Accordingly, we advise that all special orders for Eureka Miniatures and 15mm AB Figures may take at least 10 weeks to fulfil, as will orders for items that are temporarily out of stock.
Please note that this happens every year at the same time, and particularly affects the period from mid-July to mid-August. It severely tests our reserves of stock of AB and Eureka figures, and some lines may go out of stock with no prospect of replacements arriving quickly.
Fighting 15s’ next show takes us back to Scotland for Claymore (Edinburgh, 4 August).
Nic Robson, boss of Eureka Miniatures in Australia, will be on Fighting 15s’ stand at the show, selling samples of Eureka’s latest and forthcoming releases, including to the best of our knowledge 28mm Montrose Irish, 28mm Sumerians, 28mm Teddy Bear Pirates, and more releases for the 28mm Toytown range.
Claymore will be the first UK show at which the above figures will be available; they will also be available at Historicon in the US in July.
Fighting 15s cannot take every range to shows, and most of those we do take are usually sold as unit packs. Although we are beginning to have some 15mm AB Figures at shows, they are usually available only in bargain packs: we do not sell individual 15mm AB Figures at shows except to customers who order them in advance.
Our carrying capacity of stock for Claymore is limited – we travel by train with two large cases full of crates, and Nic Robson travels with only one large box – so we particularly recommend that customers order in advance for collection on the day.
We no longer take Black Hat figures to Scottish shows.
The arrival of our latest consignments acts as a reminder that from now on, horses for 15mm AB Figures will be cast in the UK just as soon as we use up our large stocks of imported AB horses. This will probably happen in January or February 2007.
Eureka Miniatures UK castings use a different, higher tin-content alloy from Australian-made AB horses. Castings are therefore lighter and stronger. As the moulds are made for us by Eureka Miniatures in Australia, you should notice no other difference in quality. One benefit is that the UK-sourced figures will work out cheaper to post if ordered in bulk.
Horses account for the greatest proportion by weight of our orders from Australia, and casting them in the UK will hopefully allow us to offset the rise in postage charges that have resulted from Australia Post’s decision to end its economy airmail service.
